EMDR Therapy

One result of trauma is that the brain (and body) thinks you are back in the trauma when triggered by something in the environment.

EMDR therapy helps you reprocess and desensitize your trauma, to retrain your brain into understanding that you are NOT still living in that memory. It allows you to take some control back in your life. It is a specialized procedure for resolving trauma or loss of memories. Briefly, it involves having the client concentrate on the worst moment of the memory while incorporating bilateral stimulation; this is repeated with different aspects of the memory until no further distress remains.

EMDR is now one of the most well-researched psychotherapy treatments for trauma and (in a recent meta-analysis) has been found to be the most effective and efficient of the well-established trauma treatments.
